Whether or not to invite children to your wedding is a decision many couples struggle with. The decision is personal and often budget/space driven. If you have decided to invite children, here are some tips on how to keep them entertained and how to best accommodate them! Consulting with a Milwaukee Wedding Planner can also provide valuable insights on managing children at your wedding.
(I am a mom of two so I can personally vouch for these tips as both a mom and a Milwaukee Wedding Planner.)
1. Hire a babysitter – If you have a lot of young children attending your wedding, you may want to hire a babysitter to keep them entertained during the ceremony and reception. This will allow you and your guests to enjoy the wedding without having to worry about the children.
2. Provide activities – There are a number of activities that you can provide for children at your wedding. Some popular options include coloring books and crayons, games, and puzzles. You can also set up a play area where children can play with toys or games. Many couples have a small bag of toys and coloring supplies at the kids’ dinner place settings.
3. Offer special food and drinks – You can offer special food and drinks that are just for the children. Most caterers offer kids meals for a discounted price (chicken strips, Mac and cheese and fruit are common). Make sure the bar has plenty of N/A beverages, especially for kiddie cocktails!
4. Create a special area for children – If you have a large number of children attending your wedding, you may want to create a special area for them. This could be a room with toys and games, or it could simply be a corner of the reception hall that is designated for children.
5. Be patient and understanding – It is important to be patient and understanding with children. Restlessness or boredom may arise during the wedding, so it’s important to prepare for this. They may shout or cry during your ceremony or speeches. They might sprint down the aisle and also forget what they are supposed to do. Just take it in stride.
6. Enjoy the moment – Even though you may be busy making sure that the children are entertained, it is important to enjoy the moment and enjoy your wedding day. The parents of the kids you invite will appreciate you making it as easy for them as possible for their kids to attend!
